The Blind Lemons
We started with The Blind Lemons as a reincarnation of the band some of us played in back then, “Alias Blues Gang”. We decided to take a new course and blend two of the styles we like best: Chicago and New Orleans. True, the name of the band doesn’t precisely honor the style, but we fancied we could also pay tribute to another one of the greats. That being said, we appropriately named our first record “Southside Gumbo”.
First and foremost, we are best friends -and then, we’re a band. I think that has a translation in our playing. Some of us have been playing together since 1999, and so far we haven’t killed, mutilated or severely injured each other. We include a lot of New Orleans and Chicago in our setlist, but also some touches of other stuff we like: we cover Dr. John, Alain Toussaint, The Meters, Fats Domino, Smiley Lewis, Earl King, Guitar Slim, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Reed, Hound Dog Taylor, Buddy Guy, Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson, and so many others, but we also borrow some songs from the likes of Louis Jordan, Cannonball Adderley, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington or even AC/DC (?!).
We do like writing stuff, too, so we also play our own material –yet again, swimming between two waters: those of the Mississippi river and lake Michigan.
We play wherever they want us, from clubs and festivals to jails and restaurants. People have their fun and we sure have ours, so you can’t ask for much more –besides getting paid, that is ;)
